Hi folks, Steve Rouse here. Well, it’s taken me a while to figure out the “next thing”, but I believe I have with these stories. From growing up in a small town in the 50’s and 60’s to a crazy morning show and our band, to an organic farm and a slightly scandalous BnB, I’m sharing my journey with all the humorous twists and turns this old baby boomer has experienced along the way.  Plus, I share a lifestyle, we call “Steve Style” full of growing veggies, having a flock of chickens, keeping bees, heating with wood,  cutting firewood, and being one of Mother Nature’s closest friends.

Listen in the car or read and watch at lunch, in bed or sitting on the … you know. I hope you enjoy!

We’ve shown you how to plant the spuds in a field, now we move to the raised bed.  I said on the video we probably wouldn’t get that many out of the bed.  Of course I’m used to gettting hundreds of pounds from the field.  I don’t want to discourage you from trying this.  I’m predicting we should get 50 pounds of potatoes  out of the bed.  We’ll see.

Our dog Pepper had recently undergone some social media scrutiny after posting her true feelings about dog crates. She said she didn’t like them. She suggested dog owners were kidding themselves if they thought crates gave their pet a sense of home, safety, and security. Pepper said any dog she knew, if having the choice, would choose to sleep on a soft, fluffy duvet-covered king-sized bed over sleeping in a jail cell any day! She...

For anyone thinking about growing some of your own veggies, I wanted to show you something new I’m trying this year. These things come in all sizes and shapes, should last a long time and easy to put together.

It’s getting to be potato planting time. If you’re a potato head like me, there’s nothing like fresh dug potatoes. They store well and last a long time. Once you have your own, it will be tough to go back to store bought. You can find seed potatoes at most garden places. I usually get mine at the Mill in Bel Air, Black Horse, Hereford, Whiteford, etc. This video is from a couple of years...

The Rouse and Company morning show I hosted from 1988-2005 in Baltimore became more successful than I could have ever imagined. It was a blend of on-air players with perfectly defined roles, great program managers who guided us, and a management and ownership team that wanted to win as much as we did. During that 17-year run, WQSR was nominated and won numerous awards as America’s top large market station. Along with the typical news,...

The sun has been beating down on me all day, every day, for many years. That’s why I visit the dermatologist once a year, every year. Besides the sun, age seems to bring out more connect-the-dots games on my back, front, and head than you can imagine. Once, when I had nothing better to do, I took a magic marker to my chest and actually drew lines between various moles and eruptions that...

For most of my life, I have lived in country settings. While I’ll admit I’ve enjoyed the excitement and benefits of living an urban existence for a while, I am continually drawn back to the freedom and solitude found in the country. I like having my own land and space to do whatever I want. I do tend to be overly enthusiastic about monitoring my property lines. I’ve spent countless hours marking, surveying, and...
