We’ve shown you how to plant the spuds in a field, now we move to the raised bed. I said on the video we probably wouldn’t get that many out of the bed. Of course I’m used to gettting hundreds of pounds from the field. I don’t want to discourage you from trying this. I’m predicting we should get 50 pounds of potatoes out of the bed. We’ll see.
Nice! Is the strategy the same with sweet potatoes?
No. For sweet potatoes you plant what is called a slip, which is a plant. To prepare the bed, make a mound of dirt down the center of the bed. You will plant your slips every foot in the mound. The plants will eventually take up the whole bed as they vine out. You won’t be able to plant anything else in the bed. Once they’re ready to harvest, you’ll dig them out like a regular potato. Happy planting!
